The greatest monster hunter of them all has his work cut out for him as he tracks down three deadly foes in this action-adventure saga. Gabriel Van Helsing (Hugh Jackman) is a man who has dedicated his life to battling evil forces who exist outside the bounds of nature; Van Helsing's work has not always made him friends, and a false accusation of murder still trails him. But when he's summoned to Transylvania at the behest of Anna Valerious (Kate Beckinsale), whose family has been fighting supernatural beings for generations, Van Helsing wastes no time answering her call. There, Van Helsing discovers that the undying vampire Count Dracula (Richard Roxburgh) has put a misshapen creature named Igor (Kevin J. O'Connor) under his spell, and, in turn, has forged an alliance with a hideous monster (Shuler Hensley) who was created by the misguided Dr. Victor Frankenstein (Samuel West). Adding to Anna's burden is her brother, Velkan (Will Kemp), a lycanthrope who becomes a bloodthirsty wolf under the light of the full moon. I unforunately paid to see this movie in the theaters. I saw the previews and it looked like a great action film. But Trailers to movies will trick you and this one got me good. This is such a horrible movie and the jokes are gawd awful. Van Helsing is a 5th string james bond but in the era of Vampires. This movie bombed and if you really hated somebody you should get this movie for them.

Worth renting if you're bored. Go in with low expectations and you'll enjoy it. Could have been a made-for-TV movie. I sort of enjoyed it, but probably won't rent again anytime in the near future.

It seemed as if the director was hiding something. Every scene was so dark, I could hardly make out who was in it, let alone what was happening. Also, the plot was impossible to follow. My husband and I watch every vampire movie released, and are big "Dracula" fans. (The book...you know, pages, words, etc...) This film was a disgrace to the fascinating character of Dr. Van Helsing.

This version costs extra, but according to the technical details, it does NOT include a FULL- SCREEN version. Only the wide-screen version, and a whole but load of crap like director's behind the scenes interview. Who the heck wants to see that ?

The only good actor in this film was hugh jackman. Those female vampires were terrible, and the rest go without saying, I guess the girl was okay too. The story wasn't bad, it was just the unfortunate acting. My son loved it but he is 5.

    when i first saw this at the movies back in 2004 i thought it was pretty cool i've always been a fan of the original universal monsters so i purchased this when it was released but never watched again until recently and i found kind of stupid the second time around so i think its one of those movies you watch once and thats it.

    Hugh Jackman and Kate Beckinsale are great together, any new movie with those two will be worthwhile and they also do good on their own. Supernatural is their genre and whatever they do makes it believable.
