Read More The critics were so-so about this movie, so I was surprised to see how good it is. Hugh Jackman's portrayal of Van Helsing is dashing and mysterious, and I loved the way this movie mirrors (and satirizes) James Bond movies, with its top agent sent out by the secret service of the Catholic Church to capture or kill unholy monsters. We are also treated to the best Dracula (and werewolf) ever seen. The vampire wives of Dracula are quite alluring and terrifying as well. Only Frankenstein's monster is a bit of a disappointment. The storyline has some complexity, the action is great, and the special effects are very good except in one scene. My kids loved the movie and made me buy it--which I was glad to do. I want a sequel! But both Hellboy and Van Helsing were more CGI than acting. Some of the effects were interesting the first time, but like a Jerry Lewis bit, they get dull around the 4th repeat. And what was with the flashing lights in Frankie's head and the steam coming from his knee joints? Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Van Helsing screws up major movie monster lore. I am not even an expert in the lore of these old movie monsters, but I do know that Dracula is not just supposed to change back and fourth at will.
When I see a movie I understand what it means to âÂÂsuspend disbeliefâÂÂ, but the logic (if you can call it that) is not even based in reality in the slightest. There are moments that look like they are right out of a video game, including 1st person shooter perspectives. Not to mention the moments that look like they are paying tribute to some of Warner Brothers best Willie Coyote cartoons, compliments of The Wolf man characters (yes there is more than one). Not to mention that the ending is so bad that it does not even make you forgive the rest of the film. The worst part of all at a mere 2 hours this film feels like it will NEVER END!!! It just looked like a GREAT movie. Now we finally get to see the story of Gabriel Van Helsing and why and how he became THE vampire slayer. I'm STILL waiting. You know the "monster" legends, but why did they have to be in THIS movie? Richard Roxborough played "Dracula" and made him sound like Harvey Korman doing his "Max" character from the Carol Burnett show. The story line about the "brides" and their "children" made no sense. ..."some questions are better left forgotten." But evey time I see that trailer, THAT'S the movie I want to see. With no question left unanswered or forgotten. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Special effects were pretty bad, anachronistic technology for the 19th century. Hugh Jackman defying gravity, been thrown 20 stories and living--oh yeah he's a werewolf. This is the worst pop trite I have even seen, does Hollywood think we're idiots? Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No |
