Read More I went into this one not expecting much, given the description above. I found this to be a very original western, which mixed a plot line I hadn't seen before and witch craft to make a very entertaining movie. I'm not normally a fan of the "effects" associated with Ron Howard's movies, not to mention how sirupy sweet they can be, however, neither of those factors were negatives here. He also pulled off a brutal, violent story without over-the-top gore. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

This film has character development & depth and great Costume Design, Film Editing and Cinematography. Tommy Lee Jones is likely one of the most gifted actors on the planet and while I am generally not a big Ron Howard fan - I loved this movie. Another BIG PLUS - it's filmed in New Mexico ...magical landscape that just pulls you in.
If you want an "action film" - stay away but if you like Eastwood ..Costner etc,,,then get this film - you will not be sorry !!! Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More I was quite surprised by how good this Western was. And much more authentic without being too gross (like "The Unforgiven") The film is also not "grainy" as the BB review says, and yes the bonus disk is good, so I would recommend. You really come to care for the characters, great acting, and watch how they all develop. This is a gritty portrayal, although I thought far less graphic than what we're normally assaulted with. Kudos to Ron Howard. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

I originally had no opinion after the movie ended because it didn't leave me with much feeling. It was a decent story but nothing stood out. This film fell short of what it could have been and it did not deliver what I expected. I really wished I didn't waste an entire Friday night watching it. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL?
