The entire film is quiet and understated, which is likely why it was overlooked while it was in theatres. Still, even though there were two plot items which left me with unanswered questions, I do recommend this film to anyone who likes either of its stars, or well-made costume dramas. A simplistic story told well with subtle performances nicely delivered. Very stylistic photography here, cleverly staging scenes and images all reminisent of paintings of that time period. Equally as impressive are the costumes and even more so the make up which looks more authentic of that time than of other films like it. WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes

This movie is extremely slow paced, but shot beautifully. I enjoyed it for the gorgeous scenes, but was engaged in conversation as it went on.
