A young man who has pledged his life to helping others finds himself in a pitched battle between two gangs of supernatural villains in this blend of horror story and action thriller. Michael Corvin (Scott Speedman) is a medical student who is heading home after a long day of school and work when he unexpectedly finds himself in the middle of what appears to be a rumble between two well turned-out street gangs. What Michael doesn't know is he has witnessed a skirmish between two deadly underground communities, unknown to the mortal world, who are battling for supremacy -- the Death Dealers, a tribe of vampires, and the Lycans, a band of werewolves. Selene (Kate Beckinsale) is a leading member of the Death Dealers who hears through the grapevine that the Lycans have plans to capture the aspiring doctor who witnessed their battle. Certain something is in the air, Selene begins following Michael around the city, and she finds herself growing emotionally attached to him. As Selene becomes more attracted to Michael, she becomes more convinced that the Lycans are planning a major attack against the Death Dealers, although vampire kingpin Kraven (Shane Brolly) is certain she's crediting the Lycans with more intelligence than they can muster. As Selene shadows Michael, she finds herself wanting to protect him, but her longing becomes a handicap when he's attacked by Lucian (Michael Sheen), the leader of the werewolf community, and the man she wants to save has now become a sworn enemy. Underworld was the first feature film from music video director Len Wiseman. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

This is a vampire vs. werewolf film that reminds one of an updated version of the classic Universal Studio movies, only more thoughtful. I have watched it several times, and each time I pick up on things that went unnoticed the first time I saw it. Kate Beckinsale gets a lot of well-deserved attention in her skin tight suit, but I personally thought that Sophia Myles looked even better and wished she would have been brought back in the sequel. The visuals are outstanding, with lots of action and a lot to digest mentally. This film has to be my favorite of the vampire movies.

Just a god action movie. Don't expect anything amazing, but you will see some people get beat up. Good enough for me!

A great fantasy horror movie which combines a war between vampires and lycans (werewolves) and a crafty story makes this movie awesome. There is very limited gore but still loads of action. The beginning hooks you right from the beginning and does not let go. So-so acting by Kate Beckinsale brings the movie down a bit. Most likely anybody who has not seen this should rent it.

This is a very good comic book-type movie. In fact, the script and acting are good and the movie is entertaining.

I loved this sequal, and the ways that it attempted to keep the story line straight. Charcters fighting against others, yet finding friends for the next battle.

Didn't really care for this movie or the Underworld series. There is only a very few vampire movies and werewolf movies that are even good. Stephen King's Silver Bullet, Fright Night 1985 version, Dracula 1931 classic, An American Werewolf in Paris, Dog Soldiers.Under World & From Dusk Till Dawn was 100% Retarded... All these special affect pretty much ruin a movie. Special affects are more for the younger generation. If anyone actually sat down and watch the Original movies back then and not get bored of it and just actually watched it scene by scene then watch the remakes you will perfectly understand what i mean. example watch the Original Clash of the Titans back in 1981 then was 2010 version... Same thing with the Original Batman with Michael Keaton this is by far the best Batman over all of them... I mean who can play a better role as the Joker than Jack Nicholson. Nobody!
