Read More I was surprised to see in an interview with Hugh Grant about the time "Notting Hill" came out that Richard Curtis is considered sort of a workaday comedy writer in the UK. Curtis is that and more and "Love, Actually" might very well be his masterpiece. "Love Actually" is a Christmas story for the 21st Century with roots deeply planted in Dickensian sentiment.
If Dickens reminded us that "it is good to be children sometimes, and never better than at Christmas", Curtis' message is "it is good to love someone and be loved, and never better than at Christmas". Curtis Christmas pudding gives us writers, actors, children, parents, brothers, sisters -- and even the Prime Minister all caught in the act of discovering that statement to be true. I rate this among my top Christmas movies (along with "It's a Wonderful Life", the Alistair Sim "A Christmas Carol" and "Comfort and Joy") and make it an annual rent (until someone thinks to give me a copy). Highly enjoyable. The young boy in love and the interaction with his father was the best! Many different experiences and outcomes involving love - not cynical either. I would watch it again. Read More There are good things about this movie...great cast, acting, general message, etc. It's an interesting take of the standard rom-com. However, while I don't consider myself a prude, some of the "porn" scenes just seemed completely pointless--almost as if the director put them there just because he could. They weren't funny, interesting or necessary--just distracting to the theme of the story. Another thing that left a sour taste in my mouth was the obvious, pervasive anti-American theme shown throughout the movie, but since it's so commonplace nowadays, I just roll my eyes and realize that at the end of the day, it's only a movie. Overall, this movie is a good escape if you have a couple of hours to kill, but I didn't love it. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

And Hugh Grant and Billy Bob Thornton as the British Prime Minister and U.S. President were totally unbelieveable. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No
