Member Rating:
The sophomore effort from writer and director Greg Pritikin, who previously co-directed and acted in 1998's Totally Confused, Dummy stars Oscar winner Adrien Brody (The Pianist, Summer of Sam) as Steven, a recently unemployed ne'er-do-well who has difficulty expressing himself. Steven's best friend is Fanny, an aspiring singer played by Milla Jovovich (The Fifth Element, Resident Evil) who, along with Steven, is just looking for her niche. Eventually Fanny takes a shine to Yiddish music and Steven finds he has a knack for ventriloquism. Through his newfound talent, Steven discovers that he is able to overcome his social problems through his dummy and decides to try impressing and winning the heart of Lorena, played by Vera Farmiga (Autumn in New York, 15 Minutes). The winner of the Special Jury Prize at the 2003 Santa Barbara Film Festival, Dummy also stars Illeana Douglas and Jared Harris. ~ Matthew Tobey, Rovi

A story about quirks and weirdness that's just honest enough to feel uncomfortable but enough fun to keep you laughing.

At first I was fearful that this movie would be too honest to be entertaining, but it was a fantastic movie. Adrien Brody was wonderful and Milla Jovovich was hilarious as Steven's foul mouthed best friend. I especially enjoyed watching it a second time with the Jeff Dunham commentary.

Watched this movie b/c I'm a huge fan of Jeff Dunham and his characters. Movie was a charming "coming of age"-type movie for someone who's odd, in their late 20's and just figuring out what direction his life should go. Extras on the DVD make this a must-rent!

Rented because I wanted to see Mille in early days. At first I thought I made a mistake, but after a few minutes I was captured by the characters and the direction of the film. Totally enjoyed this - simple story of growing up and growing up as a social misfit - and coming of age, following dreams and managing to find love. Kind of sappy, but also kind of funny and Mille singing at the Jewish Wedding was worth the price of a rental.

You'd have to be a dummy to like this movie...

Funny story, unlikely character hook-up. Format was too large for our TV, so it was not fully visible on right & left sides.
