Boy gets dumped on old bachelor uncles for summer by party-girl single mom. Uncles supposedly are retired ... Read More Great movie! Watched with my three teens, girl 19, girl 17, boy 15, and everyone loved it! Boy gets dumped on old bachelor uncles for summer by party-girl single mom. Uncles supposedly are retired from life of adventure in French Foreign Legion, living a quiet country life. Rumor swirl that they have loads of money, gotten from bank robberies, or being Mafia hit men, or in legal settlement. Mom asks boy to gain their trust and find out where money is. Uncles order a lion, for "safari hunt", which turns out to be an old, wheezy tame lioness, too feeble to hunt. Boy nurses it back to health. Boy must decide whether to believe the gossip or the seemingly far-fetched stories of the uncles, and, after he finds where the money is, where his loyalties lie. Not a dull moment in the whole film, and many funny, unexpected, whimsical moments that keep you guessing, laughing and rooting for the uncles and the boy. Read More This is about as near perfection as one can get in a movie. Robert Duval and Michael Caine are wonderful in their roles as the eccentric bachelor great-uncles to Walter (Osment) who has been dumped on their doorstep by his incapable mother. This movie moves along at a perfect pace - never too hoaky - never too harsh - but a movie that will make you want to live to be 100, that teaches what is important in life - and how to live it.
