This movie drags on and on and on, I kept waiting for the suspense part of the movie to begin, maybe that was the suspense. I hated the ending, it left you sitting there saying, "You got to be kidding me!" Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More "Screen Gem" Review: Merging Alfred Hitchcock-style suspense and Lars von Trier's sadism, De Heer delivers a mesmerizing psychosexual drama. De Heer squeezes tension out of the simplest compositions, employing the slow pullback of his camera to ratchet up our anxiety. It's a darkly beautiful, ruthless film, both in content and design--so airtight and claustrophobic that we, the audience, start to feel as captive as Steve. Don't expect to get up in the middle for popcorn. By Michael Wilmington Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More Its a movie filled with fantastic metaphors, a woman who, feeling trapped (has no money of her own and no household responsibility), traps her own husband in their house and gives him her reality. Its not a "Panic Room" thriller, but rather a decent look at what makes someone 'snap'. A fine Australian film, if you watch it with an open mind.... Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Read More I thought this was a film about an unhappy marriage caused by an insensitive husband...I guess the breast cancer comment in the review led me to this conclusion. But nothing could be further...the longer I watched, the worse it got. Actually, shame on me for not turning it off at the first strange twist! Sorry I wasted my time on it!

Read More Her revenge would be a gift to any American man, she showed she was a slut and the kids were might not be his, so she took the kids and removed them from his life, he doesn't have to worry about child support. If he wants he can even get her arrested for kidnapping, but why would he want. The dude got a promotion at work & rid of any responsiblities and a bad slut/wife, best birthday!!! As for the other reviewer who speaks of suspense-- what suspense? Are you refering to the two solid minutes during which we watch Alexandra burn toast in her toaster, the bread slowly browning while children squeak and banter in the background? While I am passionate about my bread, I can hardly say that long, "suspenseful" shots of it are what I'm looking for in a movie.
As for Alexandra's neverending monologue-- no. I consider myself a radical feminist, but her Body Speech was a little too trite, a little too "straight from the feminist textbook" verbatim for anyone in the room to be able to enjoy.
Even in the face of all Steve's transgressions against her, Alexandra's revenge was truly pathological-- unbearable-- I believe I would have prefered to view a castration rather than the profound psychological crippling she chose to put him through.... Read More The ending (if you want to call it that) is utterly disgusting and makes no sense given the premises established earlier in the film. The screenplay was obviously written by some sexually frustrated radical feminist, as it tries to make the apparent villain of this film into the heroine. Unfortunately, the ersatz heroine is entirely unsympathetic and to any rational mind the villain here. Her "project" is a vengeful plot to set up her husband for his comeuppance for the unforgiveable crime of, get this, actually being attracted to his wife! Oh, and by the way, the husband actually loves and adores his kids too! What a cad! Read the other reviews of this film - they are overwhelmingly negative for good reason. Don't waste your time with this GARBAGE. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No
