I even paid to see it multiple times when it was at the theater. It makes me cry every time, and I have to go take a walk and think. It's from 1985, but the acting and filming are not dated. It's still as good as it was when it came out. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Well played by Eric Stoltz, the main character becomes very real and not contrived, feeling very natural; at times you forget the deformity. This was one of Cher's first roles and I had forgotten what a good actress she had been. Sam Elliot, although only having a minor part, is also very believable and well acted.
Despite cramming four years into one year, the script is written well and doesn't feel disjointed. The ending of course, brought tears to the eyes of the household but it was not overplayed. Great movie and worth the time invested to watch it. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More This movie was well made and well acted, but I was depressed for a month after watching it. It was so sad and heartbreaking I could not classify it as entertainment. One of the reasons I watch movies, is to escape from heartbreaking reality of normal life situations for a while. I couldn't bear to watch this movie EVER again. It had a lasting effect on me.
