Read More I can't recall how I ended up ordering this movie, and I had no idea what it was about before watching it. But I have now recommended it to every thinking person I know. The main characters are actually noble (for a change), and as they are faced with moral dilemnas, they choose they usually choose the high road. I found it inspiring as well as mind-broadening. Read More i'm honestly surprised by some of the uninspired reviews. i thought it was a compelling story within a well-made movie. i didn't expect the twist at the end, either, which was pleasing because i tend to guess most endings far before i get there. tautau's performance was excellent and impressive considering i'd only seen her in amelie, a very different role from this one. she really shows her diversity. I thought this movie had an intriguing plot, good scripting, and excellent acting. It is a drama about the struggles of two illegal aliens struggling to make a life in the city of London. Thrown into the mix is a bit of mystery and a bit of romance. The movie is a bit off the beaten path, in terms of conventional moviemaking. It can be a little slow at times and perhaps leave you wondering exactly where it is going to take you. However the ending ties everything up very nicely......and quite appropriately. Read More Involving story, and although the 4 main actors are wonderful, I didn't quite make an empathic connection with all of their characters to make it a great film. Kind of wasn't feeling Audrey Tautou's desperation as much as I was feeling Chiwetel Ejiofors' goodwill. Sophie Okonedo's prostitute was adorable--not sure that's a good thing. Read More We saw this movie because it was recommended to us by an employee as being "really good". We would never have chosen this one if we had known that a women is raped in the movie. That disturbs my husband. He naturally thinks of his wife and two daughters and gets enraged. That is not the feeling we were looking for when we went to the video store.
