Read More Maybe an above average movie on the whole, but I can't understand why time and effort was given to this story in the first place. Surely there are more worthy and interesting characters to make a movie about. Barris's creation of a handfull of gameshows of questionable social value is of mild interest. His claim to be a contract killer for the CIA is difficult to be believed as portraited in the movie and as far as I can tell, in reality also. Is the fascination supposed to be his boldness in making such a claim after being out of the limelight for many years? If so, then hollywood's story pool should be deep and wide with all sorts of nutjobs who can muster up a better yarn than this one. This leads me to ask what Clooney, Barrymore, and Roberts were thinking accepting this work? Like they should have, anyone thinking of getting involved with this movie should skip it. Read More As others have said - not family entertainment. But.....if you are a movie buff and love great acting, watch this for Sam Rockwell's simply amazing performance. There are loads of great supporting roles too, but he will blow you away, especially if you grew up in the Barris TV era. Watching the deterioration of Chuck ... Read More Not family entertainment. This is a bizare movie that is hard to think of as entertainment at all. The movie got stranger and stranger as it went along. Watching the deterioration of Chuck Barris's life was hard because I loved him on the Gong Show. But at some point, the movie takes on a trainwrecklike quality and you can't stop watching. However, there were some real funny moments in this movie. Read More I was a fan of the Gong Show and have always found Chuck Barris to be an intriguing character. This is a well-done account of his life complete with big name stars who hand in some credible performances. Sam Rockwell gives a flawless impersonation of Barris. I would have liked to have seen a glimpse of the man in his later years, drinking wine and playing bocci ball (or is it petanque?) in France, but they opted for a slightly more dramatic ending. Whether it's a true story or not remains a secret as closely guarded as the identity of Deep Throat. Nonetheless it's a good story. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No | ||

This is nuts. The host of the Gong Show, producer of the Dating Game etc....a super spy? And after seeing the movie I still am not sure if it is true. The reason being can you really believe Chuck Barris? He will do anything to get in your home And he proves it in this film. Never-the-less this is still a very entertaining movie. And on those merits alone the movie is a winner. You really begin to understand what actors do when you view movies like this one, and others like Death to Smoochand Pi. Actors pushing the envelope and make you believe. This is defiantly one of those movies. .Sam Rockwell convinces you that he is Chuck Barris just as Edward Norton convinces you he is Roy or is it Aaron in Primal Fear.
