I learned from the comments posted here that Blockbuster would only send me one disc, so I went to the store and rented it. The story of Malcolm X is extraordinary: downtrodden, misplaced, descent into crime, prison, ascent to trailblazing religious figure, betrayal and banishing, pilgrimage, revision of views and ultimately, assassination. That is a lot to put in a movie, but Spike Lee was so impressed by the book, that he probably could have made it fifteen minutes long and done it justice. For one, the book is better, but only because it has a magnificent and raw reality to it. I recommend it highly, no matter what race you are. This was sort of abridgement, with a couple of things changed around, but still with the same idea. It began kind of awkwardly, but it got better as it went. Washington, I think, was the very best choice for the main role, X dead on. Just don't make the mistake of renting it here; go to the store and rent it. B+

I think that a lot of people need to see this movie. Many only see Malcolm X as a militant and rebel but after watching this movie I realized that Malcolm X was indeed more than militant. He was so much more he was powerful, respected and had come to change his ways. I gained a respect for him once I realized that he gained a respect for all people regardless of the color.

It seems like I saw the whole movie, and I only got one disk, so maybe they changed that by now... Anyway, this was an amazing movie! I didn't really know a lot about Malcolm X, and I had heard a lot of the hype about him being racist and violent. Now I completely understand how he felt everything he felt, and especially considering how he changed over time, he has my utmost respect and admiration as a man. This movie was very well put together and kept my attention the whole time. Denzel, as always, was great! This is a must see for all Americans--especially those who misunderstand who Malcolm was and what he stood for!

I agree with the other writers. Blockbuster, it doesn’t seem that it should be such a challenge to make clear this is a 2 DISC SET!!! Please do so! What I saw was excellent though!

Folks, this is a bit of history that to see you must read the Blockbuster HELP screens - when ordering this movie you MUST order BOTH discs - that's how Blockbuster does it - it won't count against your limit. REVIEW: forgoe disc one. Its long and boring, adds nothing. Disc two, however, will catch you up in a history you only thought you knew. DO NOT miss the documentary footage (bonus) of Malcolm X upon which this movie was written. It will undo all that you thought you knew and open your eyes as his were opened. Acting is good, Malcolm X is undeniably greater, worthy of your attention as he grows, changes and dies. BUT, the film does not address the aftermath of JFK assasination - civil rights came to be. What did Malcolm think then of JFK's influence after the death? He surely thought something. This movie missed that all important topic. Aside from that missed opprtunity in writing the movie, it IS worth the rest of our attendance.
