If you read the book, you'll want to watch the movie. But like most movies based on books, you will be disappointed if you compare it to the book. I watched both the extended and normal version. The extended version is excruciatingly long, with a LOT of scenes that did not add much value to the movie. Much better than the "fellowship of the ring", but definately not as good as "Return of the King".

I loved the books and the films do justice. If you are any type of fantasy fan all three are a must see. Actually, if you are a fantasy buff at all and haven't seen them yet you may want to reconsider you're love of the genre, or have a friend check your pulse.

All 3 are excellent. I loved the first one the best, it was my favorite. But all 3 are excellent movies. All are very long, but worth it.

This is an incredible epic. I highly recommend all three movies in the Lord of the Rings series. Costumes, scenes, and storyline are incredible. Acting is supurb. If you read the books, you will notice slight divergence (mostly in what is included in each movie), but overall it follows the books closely. Perhaps the motion picture event of the decade!!! Absolutely everyone should see these movies!!!

A weak sister of the three films. Too much twisting of the story goes on in order to make for the big finish. Serves to move the plot from 1 > 3, but with the darker material the film covers, it's a bit of a slog. And the love story angle is painful to watch. Viggo, who was great in 1, is poor on this one.
