I watched both the extended and normal version. The extended version is excruciatingly long, with a LOT of scenes that did not add much value to the movie. Read MoreThis is an incredible epic. I highly recommend all three movies in the Lord of the Rings series. Costumes, scenes, and storyline are incredible. Acting is supurb. If you read the books, you will notice slight divergence (mostly in what is included in each movie), but overall it follows the books closely. Perhaps the motion picture event of the decade!!! Too much twisting of the story goes on in order to make for the big finish. Serves to move the plot from 1 > 3, but with the darker material the film covers, it's a bit of a slog.
