8 out of 8 people found this review helpful And I'm not just talking about Zhang Ziyi; this movie is a work of art, a true feast for the eyes. As are most of the more recent Chinese martial arts movies (Crouching Tiger, Flying Daggers, etc), in fact. Yes, the martial arts themselves are way over the top and physically impossible, but that is just part of the tradition in which these movies are made. Does anyone criticize American superhero movies because they're impossible? Martial artists are China's equivalent. Think of the battles as dancing with swords and they get easier to appreciate. The movie as a whole is of course shot in breathtaking scenery, especially the battle over the lake, and the story utterly absorbing. Jet Li has apparently sworn off fight movies, and that is everyone's loss.WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Top that off with a story line that supports itself. I highly recommend this movie. It will be one that you will not forget. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More This movie has beautiful action sequences, an amazing musical score, and an intriguing plot based roughly around actual events. If you don't like fantasy like fighting scenes that push the boundaries of martial arts then you will not like this film. The people who say this film is "boring" or "dumb" are narrow-minded to say the least. If you enjoy pre-packaged hollywood cookie-cutter movies then you will hate this movie, but I loved it! Read More Hero is the best combination of drama and incredible martial arts action I've seen since Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. The plot is intricate and evolving, as the story unfolds via flashbacks told by the "hero" to the power-hungry Emperor of Chin. Conflict and resolution is the driving force of the movie, set to a backdrop replete with stunning scenery and magnificent use of color and contrast. A must for any fan of Chinese tradition and martial arts. The film is subtitled, but the dialogue is short and rarely distracts from the film's impressive action sequences. I do thank him for helping to bring this film over. If you liked 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon', you will enjoy this film. I especially urge you to make use of the subtitles to experience this film in it's original language. It is impressive to note that Jet Li took a pay cut just to do this movie. I had the privilage of watching the original Chinese release before the movie was released in the theaters here in the USA. I am told 10 minutes of footage was still cut from the USA release, as well as one section of subtitles being interpretted differently, so I can't speak directly on the American release, but the overall film should be the same. The movie is told using different colors to seperate events as related by different people, and is both suburbly wrtitten and filmed. This is a film that must be watched.
