Read More This big time "sleeper" may well become Benicio Del Toros finest hour. A Black Ops oprative has gone off the reservation, and mentor Tommy Lee Jones is asked to retreive this deadly knief fighter. And the knief fighting senes displayed in this movie are nothing short of amazzing. Never in a movie has the art of knief fighting been so displayed. This movie like "Sarton is truly original. Add brillant performances by Del Toro and Jones, along with masterful direction from William Friedkin, will deliver a sure hit every time. Don't be surprised to find this movie on somones best "Sleepers of all Time" list down the road. I think this DVD like "American History X" will pick up steam here on blockbuster once the word gets out...How strong do I feel about this review..I bought the movie...aka ZoE Reporting Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Sayoc Kali did an incredible job of choreographing the fight scenes and Benicio and Jones come off as experts. The performances and the story itself is subtle, apparently some people prefer to be beaten over the head with plot so this movie may not be for them. If you don't mind having to think a little and examine what's put in front of you this is a great film. Despite what uncredited second boom operators may feel, this is a must see- the acting is subtle and the action is both realistic and exciting. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Jones was just average, basically played the same character as he was in The Fugitive. Simple story line that could of been better if they got into Del Toro's character's mindset a bit more. Predictable ending, rent if you liked Fugitive. Otherwise don't bother. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More The only redeeming thing about this movie is that it was shot in Portland, where I live. However that said, what's with the steaming sewers and constant police sirens? Very bizarre. As for the movie - what a pile of garbage! The acting was terrible, the story disjointed and the fight scenes were ridiculous: Tommy gets a stake through the thigh before bungying off a cliff, but then climbs up onto land and walks around perfectly normally. Then he and Benicio severely stab each other multiple times but carry on as if nothing happened!?!?! I think it could have actually been a good movie - oh well. I was given the script prior to shooting my first day and read it. I was left with this thought: "What in the world?... They're combining Rambo and Fugitive!"
The editing staff assured me that the finished product would be worlds apart from the shooting script and that I should hold my opinion until I saw the theatrical release.
Well I did. And I was right in my first assessment. The script is DULL and the actors seemed to be more willing to mail in their performances. TL Jones (whom I call "Mr. Grumpy") was in this for ONE REASON: to feed his habit...namely, polo ponies. He didn't want to be there and it showed in his performance. At the end of principal photography, he took the company aside and, with tear-in-eye, told us, "I just want you to know that of all the crews I ever worked with, you are by far the most recent." Yuk yuk.
See this only if you're stoned.
