Based on a true story,about hydroplane boat racer Jim McCormick played by Jim Caviezel as he prepares for the 1971 Gold Cup championship which was in the river town of Madison, Ind. And a retired mechanic played Bruce Dern helped save the day. A great movie after the movie, watch the special on the real people of Madison.

Based on a true story of Thunder boats on the Ohio River. I rented it mainly because it had Caviezel in it and it was a true story. Excellent story, not just about a thunder-boat, but about a boy, his father, an entire town and their struggles. Then there was a little thunder boat racing thrown in.

Here's the skinny. I love G and PG rated flicks because they tend to have more content but every element of this story was predictable and boring. Boring because none of the actors looked like they really believed their parts. It was as if they got told their paychecks were being cut in half but still had to do the film. This isn't worth renting IMHO.

I grew up in this part of Indiana and racing is still a big deal there. The movie really captured the feel of a small town struggling for it's identity. A good movie I would strongly recommend!

I did a search on a actor named Michael Schoeffling that I saw on "Sixteen Candles" and that I enjoyed very much. For some oddly reason, this movie came up on the search and without checking to see if my good looking actor was in this movie, I rented it. After looking in the credits, I notice that his name wasn't on it. So, I gave the movie fifteen minutes and it seemed boring. I liked Caviezel in "Frequency" but NOT this movie.
