If you were to have told me that Robert Rodriguez, the director of Desperado and El Mariachi would make a ‘kid flick’, I would probably exclaimed, “When pigs fly!” In a rare display of Hollywood loyalty, Rodriguez even utilizes many of the same actors. Unfortunately I’m not a kid anymore, but this movie definitely isn’t just for kids. Think of it as a much younger James Bond (and his sister) movie with Q on steroids. If you’re a kid, sit back and enjoy! If you’re an adult, slap on some anti-wrinkle cream, grab a big box of Ju-Ju Beans and enjoy!

If only these films were available when I was a kid, but even for adults there is some humor that soars in at the level of Bullwinkle and Rocky over the cerebral cortex of the kiddies and lands squarely on the chin of adults who are indulging in this film. And, while I could throw darts at dialogue and silly plot twists, I am astutely aware that I was a guest viewing a film intended for another audience which may have high entertainment from the film's sophomoric quips, jabs and obvious directions. Enjoy the film, and if you think you are smarter than a fifth grader, try the Set Top game included under Special Features on the DVD.

Fun, escapist fantasy pic for an 8-year old boy. One instance of a curse word. Some good themes - friendship, loyalty, teamwork, sacrifice, resilience, and the importance of family.

This was great for the kids, our second time getting it actually. Its a cute kids movie, why do the effects have to be believable? They loved it, it was real enough for them!

Same plot as the Spy Kids 1: adults are dumb and kids are smarter and cooler. Definitely for kids only.

The Spy Kids movies are definitely different. You know you're watching a Robert Rodriguez film, which sets them apart. As with the other 2 Spy Kids, Rodriguez has a moral that is brought home to the viewer; something that is left out of most movies these days. I like for my kids to get that reinforcement with their entertainment. A good, emotionally healthy movie.

As so often happens, the sequel is lacking some of the first movie's charm. The special effects are a bit more overpowering and, surprisingly, clunkier and less believable. The actors are good, though, and the family interactions seem honest. My kids loved it, and it's a good family movie.
