This fun, silly thriller written and directed by Michael Crichton manages to combine the dramatic murders of beautiful models, a secret conspiracy to use TV commercials for mind-control, and an unusual seeing-eye device which makes the wearer invisible. Plastic surgeon Larry Roberts (Albert Finney) becomes the prime suspect after two models on whom he operated are killed. Larry becomes suspicious because both of the women came into his office asking for very precise and seemingly unnecessary physical alterations. Agreeing to operate, because the women's jobs depended on the surgery, Larry must now clear his own name and save his life and career. With the aid of a friend and model Cindy (Susan Dey), Larry discovers and foils the plot led by corporation-head John Reston (James Coburn). Larry must then fight for his life against Reston's thugs who are equipped with the devices, called "Lookers." This is good, if silly fun and Albert Finney does his best with a somewhat implausible script. ~ Linda Rasmussen, Rovi

For some reason, I have been entranced by this movie since I first saw it in the theatres in the early 1980s. This movie is very much '80s in look and feel. Some of the lines are corny, and some situations the characters find themselves in are far fetched. If you are looking for the latest techno-thriller, this movie may not be for you. On the other hand, the message is still as believable, and some of the movies main points just as true as they were 25 years ago, when the movie was released. It's a good flick. If you are a fan of Crichton, any of the actors, or movies about how people might want to use tv to control the population, you should find this movie entertaining. I'm glad they chose to _finally_ put it out on DVD, and you can be sure it's one that I will keep in my collection.

A good sci-fi movie by 80s standards. The plot is loosely woven and triumps to make a fair sci-fi movie by standards of 1981 when it was produced. Slow and predictable, the film is very reminscent of the Star Trek genre without the space travel. Various sci-fi apparatus and out-of-this-world gizmos are used to build subtle moments of suspense and mystery. The actors are B rate actors and actresses that fade from memory once the movie is over. Over all, the movie is entertaining but not an unforgettable movie.

Boring, tedious; couldn't wait for it to end. It was corny and cheesy, even by 80's standards.

I always liked the theme song to this movie (also titled Looker) and have tried over the years to get a copy but it is not available anywhere I could find. (artist Sue Saad and the Next I believe made just one album and this was their best song). So the movie was great from the start because of the theme song. I found the movie to be a little better than when I saw it back in the early 80's, maybe not a blockbuster but the music and nude scenes make it a good movie. Susan Dey must have been in her early 20's and looked great. There are a few nude scenes but no raw sex. I guess you have to like Susan, James Coburn and Albert Finney to appreciate the movie. I recomend it highly.

A great 80's Sci-Fi film. I just had to have it in my collection. The science fiction comes closer to science fact now that we do have computer animation. Who know the military could even be working on a "Looker Device".

Not the best of Michael Crichton by far. The premise is unbelievable and sub- standard for later Crichton tales.

Cute, but poorly acted in all the supporting roles, and a generally empty plot. But I didn't finish it, so maybe there's a hook at the end?

A classic from the mind of Michael Crichton. Ahead of it's time when it came out, and, believe it or not, still is.

Flawed, but hugely entertaining sci-fi flick. If you are an Albert Finney fan, or a connoisseur of 1980s underrated flicks, this one is a must-see. Great snapshot of the 70s and 80s era, with interesting combination of guns, girls, and gadgets that keep the story moving. I've never seen a more passionate kick to the groin than the one given by Albert Finney to a thug with the Looker pistol.

A Barbie Doll type movie with horrific acting and a terrible script. Michael Chrichton had to have his tongue in his cheek when he made this story up.
