This documentary is very well made, but prospective renters must be warned that it shows extremely violent and gruesome images, which are made even more shocking by the fact that they capture a real prison murder at its most violent. The documentary does have a story of redemption in it but inspires fear more than anything--and perhaps some sympathy for the perison guards who have to watch over these monsters. In the case of the main killer, murder appears to be not only the result of a few a bad decisions but of a sociopathic predisposition to kill.
I feel this movie was a true look into what can happen if parents don't learn to be there for their children! The worst part is this is really what happens in state prisons!

The people in this documentary seem like everyday normal people, even though they have committed murder. It shows you how easily people can fall into the culture of violence in prisons.

Troy Kell kills a pimp for a young girlfriend. It is what any good father with daughters would want to do. The American justice system crushes Kell and the young girl society failed to protect. Every so often, someone has to disregard rational thought and abandon the law to do the right thing according to human emotion- The bad people know there are worse fates than being arraigned. Troy Kell comes off as a quasi-hero in this regard. How do a judge and jury gives a 15 year old girl life with parole when she just wanted this pimp to be beaten up and to leave her alone. Faced with a ruined young life in a max security prison, Kell takes up a cause and survives. You end up feeling horrible for everyone involved-especially the guy who is in a super maximum prison for forging a $300 check. You will laugh when you learn the details of the particular crime that landed him in prison and cringe when you remind yourself that these are real people and victims of a much messed up system.
