The Living Daylights represents the first appearance by Timothy Dalton as "Bond...James Bond." Based very, very loosely on an obscure Ian Fleming short story, the film finds Bond assigned to aid in the defection of KGB agent Jeroen Krabbe. 007 must prevent an unknown sniper from killing Krabbe before he can reach the West. The mysterious assailant turns out to be the luscious Maryam d'Abo, who like practically everyone in the film except Bond is Not All That She Seems. The plot wends its way through a scheme to trade several million dollars' worth of diamonds for weapons, which will be shipped off to mercenaries worldwide. The climax takes place high above the clouds in a cargo plane loaded with opium. Dalton would play Bond one more time in License to Kill (1989) before handing the franchise over to Pierce Brosnan. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

This is the best of the ignored Bond films. Also the best of the Timothy Dalton Bond films (not saying much, but 50% isn't bad). Simply put, I love this movie. If you're a Bond fan who passed off the Dalton films, give this one a shot. It runs a little long, but it is a fantastic ride.

After Roger Moore's terrible last film, 007 returns once again to his hard-edged roots with The Living Daylights. Although the plot is heavily convulted and the villains hardly memorable, Timothy Dalton is great as Bond and the action scenes are excellent.

Review 330: Dalton gives us the serious novelized bond, the right man to spot ametuer shooters and save a lady in trouble, leaving the campiness to small cliches.

This is a great Bond film. Dalton's Bond in this film is like Connery's Bond in Dr. No, a cold blooded killer. Dalton should have played Bond instead of Roger Moore in A View To A Kill, would have made the film interesting instead of Moore playing Bond in 1 too many films.

Disappointed. Not a good Bond. Storyline needed some help. Timothy Dalton goes from Rocketter villian to Bond. Too bad Remington Steele would not let Pierce Bronsan out of his contract.

Ugh, seeing Timothy Dalton as bad guys my whole life, I couldn't feel him as Bond. In fact, he should do a Bond villian now. Worst Bond ever... well except for maybe that Australian guy.

I'm sure it was a great opportunity for him to play bond. He's just so stiff and missing the wit expected from a Bond character.

I prefer Dalton over Brosnan as Bond. Too bad the movie became unwatchable about halfway through. I never got to see the story unfold. Maybe one of these days I 'll get a copy that doesn't digitally break-up halfway through. Very very frustrating!
