Roger Moore makes his first appearance as "Bond...James Bond" in 1973's Live and Let Die. Bond is dispatched to the States to stem the activities of Mr. Big (Yaphet Kotto), who plans to take over the Western Hemisphere by converting everyone into heroin addicts. The woman in the case is Solitaire (Jane Seymour in her movie debut), an enigmatic interpreter of tarot cards. The obligatory destructive-chase sequence occurs at the film's midpoint, with Bond being chased in a motorboat by Mr. Big's henchmen, slashing his way through the marshlands and smashing up a wedding party. Clifton James makes the first of several Bond appearances as redneck sheriff Pepper, while Geoffrey Holder is an enthusiastic secondary villain. The title song, written by Paul McCartney and Linda McCartney, provides the frosting on this 007 confection. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
This is the best Bond movie yet! A great job done by Roger Moore, a wonderful job done by Yaphet Kotto, and a great theme done by Paul McCartney! This is a movie everyone will want to see, even if you aren't a James Bond fan!
This is Roger Moore's first outing as James Bond. Though Roger Moore is a good actor, he too frequently comes off as a super famous spy which detracts from the story. The villains here are not believable.
This is also the first of two appearances by an overweight southern sheriff. What is his purpose? Humor? Showing how cool James is? Making fun of southerners?
The music and opening sequence aside, this is not a James Bond film worth seeing.
This movie brings back good memories of when I saw it with mother, and 6 brothers and sisters in the Summer when it first came out. It is still very funny and enjoyable.
Bond-now played by Roger Moore-is more clownish this time around, and the reduced budget really dates this film. Still, some decent action scenes (Such as the speedboat chase) and a great Bond girl in Jane Seymour. Great classic title song too.
althougn not my number 1 fav bond flick it contains enougn action girls stunts and a well-written enough plot and characters to keep it going. theres some good humor at times in the jw peppers character and moore is a master at quips and innudeos and jane seymour was great overall a well-done and entertaining bond entry 8/10
This was the weakest of the James Bond movies I have seen so far (I am watching them in order, so hopefully they get better again. The plot was interesting, however the plot and the lines were weak.
Live And let Die is Roger Moore's first movie as the secret agent James Bond. There does not seem to be any point in making comparisons to the previous actors. I watched the Blu-ray version of this film and it was a great transfer. The villain, Yaphet Kotto, seemed weak as was his plan for world domination. However I enjoyed his two henchmen, Julius Harris and Geoffrey Holder, much more. We did get to see Bond's home in the opening act which was a little different. No Q in this movie but Bond made great use of his tricked up watch. Sheffie J. W. Pepper made his first appearance as a Bond character. It was fun picture. It had snakes, sharks and crocs. There was a little voodoo, the double decker bus trick and an exciting boat race. A very young and beautiful Jane Seymour is the icing on the cake.
Great title song by Paul Mc Cartney. I didn't know if Roger Moore could pull of being Bond. I mean after all he was in a show called the Saint. He did a terrific job. He's no Sean Connery, but he was good. He had the suave good looks you expect Bond to have.
