It would have been interesting if the movie had something to say.. it never does.. it's aimless and endless. Great writing.. reminds of a great song that just wasn't mixed or produced correctly. This falls far short of Kaufman's other work. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

What was the point of this film? The other reviewers (minus one) seem to imply that this film questions the meaning of life and other escoteric themes. Trust me folks, there's more to life than regretting that you'll never get the two hours back that you put into wathcing this drivel. Nick Cage needs a better agent. This film was rediculous, and all over the place. The script was garbage and the plot pointless. You will truly regret wasting your time. Don't double click this one! Blockbuster selected it for me and I had rented it before. A simple check of my renting history would have told them that, and they could have sent me something I had not already seen. So much for high tech. Want to watch something really good? "A History of Violence" is excellent. Also "Crank" is an excellent 'B' movie action thriller. This movie is just so-so, but the good cast moves it up a notch. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More I cannot believe this script cites Robert McKay (whose book, "Story", is absolutely brilliant) nor that McKay's seminars proudly refer to this film. This script is just awful! Four layers of flashbacks, unsympathetic characters, and a tiresome plot. It's difficult to get through the first half. Then, after the main character "goes to" the McKay screen writing seminar, it falls back on every cliche element of really bad scripts. This should be used as an example, on how NOT to write a screenplay. Nicholas Cage, Meryl Streep, and Chris Cooper do their best to carry this film, so the 1 star is for them. The writer, however, should be blacklisted. Even "Being John Malkovich" wasn't this bad. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No |
