It is about time a Civil War movie shows the humanity behind the war. It is a long movie, but well worth the time.

Much, much better than Gettysburg. I think the way battles were fought back then were absolutely stupid, but the story flowed a lot easier than Gettysburg.

The movie is a little slow at times and jumps around a little too much. It's worth a watch if you enjoy civil war history and the costumes, battle scenes, and scenery are superb.

If a movie were to be written by Stonewall Jackson's publicist, this would be it!

Poor acting, poor cinematography, poor attempt at making a win out of a loss, poor script, poor scenery and poor account of the era. Not to mention God awful long!

I am not a big Civil War buff, so I did not enjoy the movie that much. I think it is an attempt for the director wipe away the stigma that the Civil War was completely about slavery. To show that people in the South thought their way of life and freedoms were in dire straits. Not your typical movie, something like you would see if you watched TNT. (Ted Turner's other creation)

I thought this movie was very poorly written and filmed and directed. The battle scenes are extrememly boring and unrealistic, with no excitement. I would not recomend this movie at all.

At first I thought this movie was going to be nothing but action! With death and explosions everywhere, and of course some dialoge. HA! If you love to hear scripture from the Bible, and speeches from long-winded generals, then you would like this movie. But I didn't! My advice, skip this movie!
