Not bad but a real down and out story. The plot is slow and the story has subplots that you really don't care about. But the cast does a nice job with it.

After seeing some of the reviews about how the plot was slow, I believe that was the intention of the director to portray the slow decay of both the city and James Franco's character, who is slowly killing himself because of his addiction to drugs. The plot works by let the viewer experience the helplessness Franco's character feels as he manages to find himself in one helpless situation after another. The slow plot also conveys how hard it is for Robert De Niro's character, who has had to live with the fact that his father killed a young child. His character must now work to try to save the life of his own son, played by Franco, but also try to preserve any intergrity his family name may have left. A very hard but heart felt movie, as a viewer, you want desparately for De Niro's character to save his son and help him build a decent life.

If your looking to kill 2 hours, this is a good way to do it. The story is engaging enough to kill time but the movie overall isn't amazing.
