God Is Great and I'm Not (2001) Reviews

Audrey Tautou shines, as always. However, this was one movie that should not have ended without telling the audience what happens. The story is about Michele's life journey through faith and relationships, but the movie ends before telling us what she has learned.

An intersting concept but weakly executed. The storline unfolds very slowly, with a lot of repetition, and never really gabbed me. I will say, however, that Audrey Tatou is really really pretty and pleasing to watch.

Audrey Tautou is my favourite actress since I saw Amelie, and I am trying to watch every single movie with her. While Amelie and "He loves me, he loves me not" are absolutely great and a MUST SEE for french movie lovers, this is one you can skip and miss nothing. Really bad directing, our home-made videos of us on vacation days are filmed better! Believe me, this story is annoying and boring. So she is a model and flipping through the religions, having an affair with a non-practicing jew. We learn nothing about the years of their relationship, the director just fades out, we see black, then she continues with "6 months later" or so. The time jumps are often, and we are left in the dark about what happened in their lives while we were not watching. I am under the impression this was the movie BEFORE "Amelie", and the only reason this DVD is out is to cash in on the Amelie fame. It was released 3 years after Amelie, so it was laying in a vault for a while.

Audrey Tautou did an amazing job in He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not, but she had a great movie script that told a complete story. In this movie God is Great: And I am not, we get a simple page out of the life of a girl who isn't sure who she is. As a Jew who is a Buddhist I found the movie sad. This girl got involved quickly in two great religions than just wandered away. I have seen her type too often ones who get totally crazy about something one day then leave the next, their is several stages a convert goes through the first and worst stage is when they take something totally and throw out everything else these are the crazies that harass others.
