Lifeguard (1975)
Member Rating:
Sam Elliot stars as Rick Carlson, a thirty year old lifeguard who thinks life is passing him by. Rick loves the beach life and his job, but after attending his fifteen-year high school reunion and receiving advice from his family and friends that he's wasting his life, Rick begins to question his livelihood and wonders whether he should quit and find a more normal line of work -- such as selling cars for the local Porsche dealership. ~ Paul Brenner, Rovi

I consider this one to be the movie that put lifeguards on the map before the arrival of Baywatch! To see Sam Elliot , Anne Archer, Kathleen Quinlan, and Parker Stevenson in their younger days is a joy to watch! Great classic movie!

Nice movie. Only one scene was unrealistic.

This goes back to 1975 and was to some degree enjoyable. I seem to remember people like this in an era when the transition from being idle not necessarily rich life for a hard if not down right painful maturing process. You have to wonder if he ever made it to adulthood.

Rick obviously enjoyed his work as a lifeguard and although his friends, dad, and even his love interest didn't think it was a real job, he clearly loved it. He had the opportunity to make more money selling Porches, but how fun would that be? I am glad that he chose the career he enjoyed over a job that woud have provided more money. He must have been making enough money since he was driving a Corvette! When I was a teen, I went to the movies at least 3 times to see this one, and I watch it about once a year. I love it! Although this movie is from the 70's the lesson is do what you love. Besides, being a government worker (county) he had the retirement pension.
