The sets, the direction, the acting, even the background music, takes the audience right into the action of that period. It's all FANTASTIC in its horror!

Read More It goes to show how NYC changes face every generation. The Italians, Irish and Germans, English and Jews all killed one another but started intermarrying and now label themselves ' white' . The city is changing again at a dramatic rate. Unlike the want of the folks in Gangs of New York that wanted to become Americans, very few in the new immigrants of today have loyalty or a desire to become American instead choosing not to assimilate and stay loyal to their respective countries. That was the butcher's fear and argument in this movie but it was a misplaced feeling that was 120 years too early. What the butcher feared America would become is taking place now. There are plenty of moments in history that nobody needs to relive moment by torturous moment. If filth and long, bloody close-ups of torture turn you on...rent it. If you want to see a more uplifting movie about the Irish immigrants in New York, rent Far and Away, which you can also watch with your kids. Close this ReviewWAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes
