Admittedly there are some parts where the quirkier aspects of Chinese humor don't translate well, but by and large it works very nicely for an English-speaking audience. Yes, some of the effects are cheesy, but intentionally so, but all of the "wire-fu" stunts are as good as in any Chinese martial arts movie. The DVD contains both the original Chinese version with English subtitles and the US dubbed release. The latter is some 20 minutes shorter than the nearly 2 hour original, but loses relatively little from that though. Nevertheless, it's worth watching both if only to catch the missing scenes and to see how some of the scenes got reworked (the steamed bun dance sequence in particular). Some of the subtitles make absolutely no sense though. All in all, a delightful experience. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More A decent mixed spoof on kung fu genres and special effects of The Matrix. I enjoyed it better than The Matrix movies (certainly the last two) because even though the effects are so over the top, they serve the purpose of the convuluted farce story, and they don't take themselves seriously. Excellent skills demonstrated by Chow. Only downside is a lack of DVD extras. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More I give this U.S. version one star. The Americanization of this version took away all the flavor, quirkiness, and uniqueness of the International version which had the cultural comedy and innuendos relvant to the Chinese along with the actual voice of Sing (Stephen Chow) in all the dialogue. I will never watch this again! Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

But I'm sick of people comparing the effects to the Matrix. NO ONE ever compares the Matrix effects to anything previous, most people just don't realize that the Matrix, as much as it sucks (even the first one), WAS NOT THE FIRST ONE TO USE ALL OF THOSE EFFECTS. Bad acting could misconstrued as funny, but not really. Good luck watching this one. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No
