The acting is wonderful. It does not have the comedy aspect that "Baby Boom" has, but then it is more realistic and as such quite charming. The story is about a woman who is absolutely passionate about food, but lacks a social life. But all of that is suddenly changed through a series of un-"fortunate" events. If you liked "Baby Boom" and "Under the Tuscan Sun" you'll love this. Be prepared to be thoroughly charmed! Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More Eat Drink Man Moman was a big hit, it was redone in America as Tortilla Soup. Another movie was Sideways, they showed clearly that food and drink mixed well with a good story. Now we have Mostly Martha, a story of a lady with control issues (she is a cheif) she ends up with her sister's child and has no recipe on child raising. It is a big step for her to loosen up. This movie is worthwhile seeing, it makes a great point. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

The restaurant scenes where Martha is the chef par excellence with a temperament with are great. In her real life, Martha is shy and complicated and finds herself totallly unprepared to raise her angry and sad niece who cannot adjust to her mother's death. Martha's love interest is a wonderful Italian whose personality make this movie so delightful. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

I saw some of the previews, and it did not inspire me to want to spoil the experience I had watching this original version of the story. German subtitles, and fantastic acting! Read More I love movies that showcase food as one of the main characters! In Mostly Martha the main character has obsessive compulsive quirks about her food and cooking and doesn't mind confronting any customers who question her cooking abilities. But that is only part of the story. It unfolds to show her as a surrogate mother to her neice after her mother dies in a car accident. It is a sweet and touching movie about relationships. 1 out of 1 people found this review helpful This is a light and fluffy ride through the melancholy life of an eccentric, quixotic chef. It's a familiar story of family loss and gain, and loss and gain again, with a predictably uplifting ending. However, the 3 lead charachters add just the right ingredients to make this a satisfying movie, so don't be put off by my description. Plus, the behind the scenes look at a working restaurant kitchen was fascinating. If you're looking for something intelligent, romantic, and slightly quirky to watch on a cold winter night, grab a glass of wine, a plate of cheese, and prepare to enjoy yourself.WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Not saying I didn't like it, it was actually a nice, easy-going movie, but not a fabulous one. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No |
