Loosely inspired by the true story of the heavy metal band Judas Priest, this music industry fable from director Stephen Herek is based on a script by actor-turned-writer/director John Stockwell. Mark Wahlberg stars as Chris Cole, a wannabe rock star who works by day as a copy machine repairman and by night as the lead singer of Blood Pollution, a Pennsylvania tribute band that imitates the best-selling heavy metal rockers of Steel Dragon. Although he's supported by his girlfriend Emily (Jennifer Aniston), Chris is devastated when his friends kick him out of the band he founded. His humiliation doesn't last long, however, as Chris soon learns that he's been tapped to replace the lead singer of Steel Dragon, literally becoming a rock star overnight. Chris soon has everything he's ever wanted but is disappointed to discover that being a superstar isn't everything it's cracked up to be. Rock Star was produced under two other titles, "Metal God" and "So You Want to Be a Rock Star." ~ Karl Williams, Rovi

If it didnt have brief nudity scenes and cussing it could have been a family movie. It was a bit too silly to take seriously. The moral of the story was good. I was expecting it to be more modern and more serious. It was shallow on emotions and the story moved pretty quick.

A guilty pleasure movie for me. Some actors standing in as band members, but actual musicians on stage makes the stage performances jump off the screen. Great tunes, written by the likes of Sammy Hagar and Desmond Child. You know, the guys who were actually writing this stuff back in the 80s? Probably had them sitting on a shelf ready to go. heh. But I have yet to meet a drummer who wears a cup. I think that was a nod to Spinal Tap and the metal detector scene. Still a great movie, and highly recommended if you are a fan of any kind of music at all.

Love this movie! Growing up in the 80's made this movie even greater. It's a must see!

I love this movie. I've seen it about 10 times and don't think I'll ever get tired of it. I love that there's actual rock n' rollers (Myles Kennedy, Zakk Wylde, Jason Bonham and more) in the movie, not just actors. Fantastic!

Really captures the 80s Heavy Metal wanna be a rock star fantasy in a believable way. Conceived from the happenings of the band Judas Priest, the adaption is worth watching. Music of Steel Dragon is from real Rockers like, Zakk Wylde, Jason Bonham, Jeff Pilson, Nick Catonese, Jeff Scott Soto, and Mike Matijevic. I own the soundtrack cause it CRANKS!
