Loosely inspired by the true story of the heavy metal band Judas Priest, this music industry fable from director Stephen Herek is based on a script by actor-turned-writer/director John Stockwell. Mark Wahlberg stars as Chris Cole, a wannabe rock star who works by day as a copy machine repairman and by night as the lead singer of Blood Pollution, a Pennsylvania tribute band that imitates the best-selling heavy metal rockers of Steel Dragon. Although he's supported by his girlfriend Emily (Jennifer Aniston), Chris is devastated when his friends kick him out of the band he founded. His humiliation doesn't last long, however, as Chris soon learns that he's been tapped to replace the lead singer of Steel Dragon, literally becoming a rock star overnight. Chris soon has everything he's ever wanted but is disappointed to discover that being a superstar isn't everything it's cracked up to be. Rock Star was produced under two other titles, "Metal God" and "So You Want to Be a Rock Star." ~ Karl Williams, Rovi
I was interested for awhile in seeing this movie but had put it off for some time.....turns out that was time wasted!!! Incredible movie with superb acting and believable script. Jennifer Anniston was great and Mark Wahlberg was as he always is...believable!! I agree with above reviewer....buy this movie!!!
I rented the movie because of others' high ratings and Mark Wahlberg's in it. Yes, he's always very real in my opinion and did a great job. I think I'd rather see someone other than Jennifer playing his girlfriend, nothing against her, just someone else. I'm a rocker, but not so much a heavy metal person. Most of the music wasn't a big draw for me, but there were a few zingers that I hadn't heard in awhile. An enjoyable movie to the end.
It is a pretty good movie as far as rock movies go. It does a much better job than Spinal Tap at showing the negative aspects of the 80's metal scene. It helps if you actually enjoy this genre of music.
This is for sure a movie to own if your a music lover. This movie shows the ups and the downs of being a rockstar. I wouldn't waste your time "renting" this one, I'd go out and BUY IT!! The acting is GREAT and the storyline is even better!!
Really captures the 80s Heavy Metal wanna be a rock star fantasy in a believable way. Conceived from the happenings of the band Judas Priest, the adaption is worth watching. Music of Steel Dragon is from real Rockers like, Zakk Wylde, Jason Bonham, Jeff Pilson, Nick Catonese, Jeff Scott Soto, and Mike Matijevic. I own the soundtrack cause it CRANKS!
