Not as controversial as i'd hoped but still entertaining horror/thriller. maybe i'm just numb to scary movies.

I found this movie so incredibly disturbing; the brutalization of the two girls was too much to take.

really bad movie. acting was corny, action was plain, it was just brutal, distubing and gross. dont see this. the new version of it 2009 is 1000000000000 times better

Last House on the Left is a movie that all my older cousins talked about and how much they liked it. Watching this movie shocked me how brutal it is and I liked how the plot of the movie intwined with in itself. Good stuff but it starts off slow and does not get good till the last 30 minutes.

I remember when this movie first came out. I was not quite a teenager and recall seeing the trailer for it. I wanted to go see it in the worst way, but my parents quickly killed any idea that I had to do so. I finally got to see it and it has lost something over the years. Perhaps back in 1972 I would have been scared spitless. However, I spent most of the movie making fun of it. I still get scared watching the original Night of the Living Dead and Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Maybe it was because the acting in Last House was really bad. Maybe it was because I had the movie so hyped up in my pre-teen mind that nothing could live up to that in my adulthood.

This played at midnight movies & drive-ins for 15 yrs, w/"dare you to see it" radio ads and strong word of mouth. The posters and tagline ("To avoid fainting, keep repeating, 'It's only a movie'") were copied for many '70s films. Ck out Dave Szulkin's excellent "LHOTL, The Making of a Cult Classic" (Fab Press) for details. The film is disturbing, but the Keystone Kops hijinx and some lousy acting deflate some of the impact. The UK has a 3-disc version, making that the 4th version released -- the 'complete' version may never be found....
