Read More What a lot of people do not understand about this movie was that it was meant to be disturbing. Wes Craven made the movie in order to show what can really happen in society - it was truly meant to shock your senses to the point that you feel like you have been assaulted by the time the movie has finished. Warning: The movie is shot 'very student like.' The film was shot with handheld cameras and blown up to a full screen for its release, so therefore, all copies of the movie are grainy with very little color. This movie is very disturbing, and is horrific only in the realism of some of the acts. I too agree that for this movie to be as dated as it is, it still holds up...as far as the shocks. This movie was graphic in some parts, yet cutaway during rape scenes. You can show someone getting gutted, but not having sex? It's a movie...very old movie. Don't waste your time. This was horrible. This movie makes no sense ... Read More I rented this movie because I saw a Quentin T. interview and he said this was one of his early inspirations. Also I generally like Wes C. movies. This was horrible. This movie makes no sense whatsoever. Just one of the plot gaping holes....how did Mari magically appear on shore when her parents found her? The attempt at humor was extremely weak. What a disappointment. Besides the house on the DVD cover is nowhere in the movie. It is certainly not the house in the movie.
