I have not read the book yet, but the story was played out well. A bit more character history would have done this film a service. But I still enjoyed it very much.

This is one Stephen King book that I have not read--don't know how this one passed me by. My husband and I both enjoyed the movie--I think that King captures the essence of growing up in the 50's better than any other writer. The ending could have been better, but since I haven't read the book yet, I'm not sure how close to the original the movie ending is.

It's kinda like what happened with Diana Wynne-Jones' "Howl's Moving Castle". A movie with the same characters and loosely the same story. Very loosely. Only, with Howl's Moving Castle, both the book and its movie interpretation were good. This is not the case with Hearts in Atlantis. William Goldman took out everything interesting from the book and inserted in its place a load of crap. While mildly enjoyable for those who may not have read the book, I was near to yelling at my tv, having read the book. So, for anyone who has read the book, I would suggest passing over this - there are no aliens or stars drawn in chalk in this movie. In fact, there's not even an intellectual exchange of literature between Ted and Bobby-O. You've been warned.

Good coming of age movie. Interesting story line. Excellent acting.

I enjoyed it but it would have been better if they showed the boy as a grown up using his special gift instead of at the end by his old house.

Another movie which had a good story but didn't do a good job of delivering it. First half is too vague and long.

Great Characters. Odd but touching story and then he craps it all away in the end...This review pretty much sums up every non-"horror" S. King movie and book.
