This $17 million direct-to-video production by Hong Kong director Ringo Lam is the story of a fire-obsessed serial killer (Jean-Claude Van Damme) and the recently retired cop (Michael Rooker) intent on stopping him. After finding his hair follicle at a crime scene, a secret government agency clones the killer in the hopes that the replicant will aid in the search. Although he's full-grown, the clone (also played by Van Damme) has the emotional and mental capacity of a young child. Replicant is good movie. It's definetly one of Jean-Claude' s best movies, acting wise. Replicant proved to me that he can be an awesome villan. There are some good fights, some of the scenes are a bit TV-esque, but i really liked it. he did really well in dual roles. I really enjoy this movie, and if you can go into this movie knowing that Jean-Claude isn't a great actor and he looks too old to be an action star, then you just might like this movie. Jean Claude might look too old, but he is still in good physical shape. and for the debaters out there Segal vs Van Damme, i think van damme has always made better movies and is in way better shape.

Ringo Lam crafts a very nicely paced, edgy story, the problem is the ridiculous premise of the movie. Yes, movies want you to swallow alot, but this is so impossible to believe, it is laughable. Van Damme actually does a good job acting, but his martial arts has all been seen before, and he really needed some opponents with some skill to showcase his ability. See some of Ringo Lam's Hong Kong movies to see how great a director he is.

What could be better than 1 JCVD...2 JCVD's. Not a typical role (at least half of it) because he is the bad guy, a really bad guy. I think this is like the 2nd or 3rd movie where he played duel roles. It was an ok film, nothing to write home about.

Watched all Jean Claudes movies when I was younger. This is by far a good example of his falling out with the movie business. I couldn't even watch the whole film.
