This and the Chocolate Factory were horrifyingly bad. I really do not know the answer, but I suspect that he must get involved with the screne writing.
The original may have lacked in special effects but it was loaded with content and intensity. Burton's remake was good regarding the costumes and effects, but he totally striped the movie of its content and intensity.
I do like some of Burton's films but I have concluded that he must never be involved in a Remake. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

I really bought all the hype leading up to this movie, but what a letdown. Marky Mark was no Chuck Heston, and the ape characters were terrible. See it if you're a fan of Rick Baker- the costumes are good, and the effects are interesting.
Otherwise, rent the original. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

I watched it all the way through, sort of liked it, and then the very next day was left with a million questions. That's not usual for a Burton movie. Even Mars Attacks, though completely idiotic, finished things up. Sure, the apes look like...human apes, and Rick Baker must have done his hardest, but why? What was the purpose of this movie? To prove that Burton could remake the original? Wahlberg is no Heston, and the rest of the ensemble pretty much was useless, so why? This movie was all right, but it was senseless. Do yourself a favor and go watch Beetlejuice or Nightmare Before Christmas instead. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More I wish he would stop remaking movies, he ruins every one he make. I waited years for this to be remade and at one point James Cameron was going to director but he bailed. This movie was so bad and it should be burned along with all the other remakes. I'm going to see Charlie and the chocolate factory and I bet he ruined that one also.
