Read More I promise that this Lynch movie has a plot that you can follow... if you see it a few times and read the Wiki entry on it. Lynch is compulsive about lighting and artifacts. Each scene has to be absorbed. Half the fun in a Lynch movie is the symbolism. Notably, Rebekah Del Rio sings a Ray Orbison song in Club Silencio and collapses after the performance. The audience in the club are in tears. I wasn't crying but I did gasp, and then had to rub the goosebumps off my forearms. That scene alone may be worth the price of admission. Lynch has no shortage of odd supporting characters. This time its Mr. Rogue, the Cowboy, and the Pool boy. For Hanna Montana fans, the poolboy is played by Hanna's dad, Billie Ray Cyrus. Here is what happens: Diane had her girlfriend murdered. Then, in a fantasy/fever/dream in the moments before she commits suicide, she reimagines her ruined career and failed relationship with the woman she loves: Camilla. But to learn this information, you have to watch two hours of Diane's dream (casting herself as brink-of-stardom Betty and her girlfriend as the dependent Rita). Reality is crammed into the last 20 minutes of the film. And this is what so many of you call a brilliant film? I don't think so! David Lynch, you owe me $4.00 and 2.5 hours of my life back. It took a lot of thinking afterwards to try and piece together what went on. There's the usual Lynch weirdness and creepiness and apparently some red herrings (or maybe I just didn't get them), as well as some funny parts - an unlucky killer, for example. If you think about it closely, you will be richly rewarded. My girlfriend and me watched it as cursed the director, screenwriter and studio that made this seemly nonsensical movie. But, a little online research had us both going "ohhhh!"

Read More One of the worst films I've ever seen, you can ignore some of the initial leaps of logic and stilted acting but you realize that after more than an hour Lynch has no intention of connecting plot elements and continues to introduce increasingly bizarre and unrelated scenes. I do admire Naomi Watts and her ability to portray a wide range of characters (even if they made no sense) but that is about as far as I would go in complimenting or recommending this movie. How this received any awards is really incomprehensible. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No | ||
