This movie is still stupid all these years later. It is morally bankrupt even in these enlightened times. It is poorly written, poorly acted and slow moving. Don't bother.

Just about as funny as "Some Like It Hot", and that is a high compliment. Very cutting edge for 1964 in the verbal sexuality department, but only the most exteme anal retentives and religious conservatives would find it offensive today. The entire cast gives delightful and right on the money comic performances. Jack Lemon's wife, Falicia Farr is genunely sexy as the loyal wife, and Kim Novak is genuinely warm and touching as the small town prostitute. Wilder planned to have Jack Lemon in the Ray Walston part, and later regreted he didn't wait for Lemon to become available. But I think Walston does just fine.

There are a bunch of recognizable comedic actors in this, but it's not quite funny enough. In particular, Martin (who I normally love) doesn't shine without his usual movie companions (although the relatively unknown Farr does a good job). I wanted to feel good about this movie, but it takes a couple serious turns and I could hardly believe the characters do what they do. I disagree with one other reviewer - this is not "cutting edge", it's just unfunny. Finally, the song that the Dino character finally performs on national TV, after the story pushes the song so relentlessly, is just a lousy song.
