Read More I have always and will always hate the yankees, so it took a while to convince myself to give this movie a chance. wow. I am glad that I did. it was fantastic. it was equal parts drama, sports action, and comedy, with a little romance sprinkled in. the acting was fantastic, and whoever did the casting did a great job picking Barry Pepper and Thomas Jane to play Maris and Mantle, respectively. they both looked the part dead on, and you could tell they really got into the roles. out of all the heart-felt sports movies to ever be released, I think this one is a very close second to Rudy. highly recommend. Read More I am not a Yankees fan, nor did I know much about the Mantle and Roger Maris stories - however, this movie was excellent. It takes you behind the life of these major figures, and shows the humanistic side of what they had to endure-the press, their relationships, their anxieties, etc. What is even better than the movie however - is the "making of" features included on this CD - Make sure you check out Billy Crystal's narrated extras - as a director, he was personally involved with Mantle & Maris, and he really incorporates his personal connections and knowledge of the team and this period of time to the big screen....No other director could have made this movie like Billy did. Worthwhile even if you aren't into this game or this team!!!! Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No | ||

I came out feeling like I knew them personally. Their trials, struggles, goals, dreams and even their fears. This was a wonderfully done movie by a great baseball fan, Billy Crystal. His passion for the sport came through. I felt at the end that I personally knew each of these men and their families. However, with all of the foul language, this is NOT a family movie.
