Yes, it is long, and yes, some say it is "depressing" but I don't see it like that. It is funny, entertaining, positive and encouraging. James Steward and Donna Reed are excellent and believable. One the Christmas traditions in my house is watching this on Christmas eve....when the children were younger they would complain but now...now....they love it!
This story does such a wonderful job of showing that no man is an island to himself. George wishes he had never been born and he gets his wish only to find his life touched so many others in ways he didn't even fathom.
OK...it is an OLD movie and for some difficult to watch but there are so many golden nuggets in this it is worth sitting through (yes...as I said, it is a little long). Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

The story line is excellent and it does bring to mind how all of us have a place in other's lives. This movie is a tear-jerker when you witness human kindness when the entire town comes to the Bailey family's rescue. This movie deserves to have a prominent place in anyone's Christmas movie collection. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

I discovered this movie as a teenager, when I stayed up late to watch it one New Years Eve. It made me cry the first time I saw it, and every time since. Evidence of true love in George and Mary's marriage, the importance of family, proof that every life is important (a great Pro-Life statement), and a story of how being rich or famous is not what's important, but how you demonstrate love towards others is. So much more than 'just' a Christmas movie... Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No
