Read More this along with creature from the black lagoon is among my favorites when it comes to classic sci/fi or horror flicks. shot in three weeks with 10 days rehearsal on a miniscule budget back in 1956, it is the ultimate in paranoia phobia. imagine suspecting a whole world against you -- and then finding out they are! kevin mccarthy and dana wynter are both superb. the black-and-white film and use of shadows and light reminds me of a noir thriller setting. this is superb film-making by don seigel and worth watching, especially at night when you are alone. this one is a nightmare come to life! I showed it to my kids last night (12, 8, and 7) and they loved it, except for the ending. My 12 year old said it was "one of the lamest endings" she'd ever seen. I guess kids today have to have everything wrapped up neatly by the end. My 8 year old asked when we were going to watch Body Snatchers 2...sad commentary on today's Hollywood that kids expect a sequel to everything. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Read More This film is superior to the remake with Donald Sutherland of the 1980's. This is not only a good sci-fi story, but it accurately depicts the moods, fears and anxieties of the Joseph McCarthy anti- Communist era in which it was made. The cast and script are marvelous and that in itself overcomes the cheesiness some of the special effects of that primitive era of film making. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? How many times has this movie been remade? I personally love every version of the "Body Snatchers" but this one is the first and the best. It's such a terrifying tale of helplessness. You don't know who to trust and you don't know where to turn. Great performances, great script, and great special effects. Even the black and white picture adds to the murky situation and peril these characters are in. Very influential, very entertaining. It's a true horror/ sci-fi classic. This movie always makes me feel "tired" as the storyline progresses. To me you can feel how tired the characters are becoming while fighting the urge to go to sleep. I read where the lead hero Kevin McCarthy hurt his shins from all the running up and down those embankments! Classic B-horror film!! Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No | ||
