I've seen this movie so many times I can't keep count. If you love old movies, you will love this one. I want to cry everytime I watch it it is such a beautiful story and a beautiful love story! The acting is superb and Ingrid Bergman plays the real life character with such conviction you want to root for her to make it to China so bad. I saw this movie for the first time in my early 20's on VHS, and have purchased the VSH tape previously and now plan on buying the DVD as well. I highly recommend this movie to everyone! I loved this movie. It is such an inspiring story of Gladys' faith and determination to follow God's call on her life. She didn't let any of the obstacles thrown in her way stop her. Ingrid Bergman seemed to play the role well, and with real understanding. It was somewhat comical to see all the western actors portraying the Chinese characters, but it didn't detract from the overall beauty of the movie's story. Close this Review

This is an amazing, albeit long, deep movie. The emotions and actions in this movie are so moving and realistic that I was so touched by the end. What a gift this movie was to my collection!

One of my 2 favorites as a kid, 'The Inn of the Sixth Happiness' is a wonderful look at China during the '30's. An inspiring story of a woman no one believed could "make it" in China. That she falls in love with a Chinese man ( played by an Causasian tho) and is a hero to the orphans makes this a compelling story. It's influence can be seen in my decision to adopt 2 Asian children. Close this Review

I rented this movie because someone in my family recommended it and it had high ratings on blockbuster.com. I should have checked - and didn't realize until now - it was 2 reviewers! I was intrigued by the idea of a true story of a woman going to China to help others, but I didn't realize that "helping others" meant converting a culture to western christian views. Very disappointing..and I'll let my family member know as well! Close this Review
