I enjoyed this French horror film even with subtitles.I agree with another member this film was way ahead of it's time for 1960.I think the father was truly more absorbed in his godly like perfection as a surgeon than that of his daughters hideous face.Very eerie and disturbing but I rate it high for having a complex theme.

This old style horror is a good watch/plot, acting, and lots of atmosphere. Once you get past the sub-titles its very enjoyable

A good horror film leaves you drained at the end, but usually it's because of sustained tension and not over-long, boring scenes as was the case in this artsy thriller. It was just too doggone slow for me to enjoy, although the premise was interesting and the one or two gory scenes were tastefully done (not scary, mind you, but tasteful). This could be remade into a really good movie in the right hands.
