Rutger Hauer gives one of the best movie psycho performances ever in this classic 80's thriller which also features C. Thomas Howell (in his teen idol prime) as the unlucky motorist who can't seem to shake the hitchhiker from hell. Jennifer Jason Leigh gives a great supporting turn as a waitress drawn into Rutger and C. Thomas' deadly cat-and-mouse game. If you can suspend your disbelief at some of the more preposterous elements of the plot and go along for the ride, you will enjoy this flick!

This is the movie that i think started the whole hitchiker storyline thrillers. Where most thriller movies have happy endings (especially when these type of movies puts the main character in the most dire situations), this movie is different because it tries to keep the situation real. That is the main reasons why it stays on any magazines "must see list"

I love Rutger Hauer - he is the ultimate scarey guy. I've watched this movie many times and have sat on the edge of my seat almost the whole time. CT Howell was great as well and was the ultimate hero/good guy. Scarey movies today are often grossly gorey. This one left alot to your imagination regarding bodily damage done to folks but still scared the crap outa ya! This one is much better than the recent version of "The Hitcher."

Rutger Hauer was terrific being a bad guy.I thought he was really a bad guy.Jennifer Jason Leigh was cute as a teenage actress. But C. Thomas Howell was okay. The remaked one story was a whole lot better. They didn't want you to see a girl being ripped apart from the semi-trucks.It was a little too cheap but sometimes I like B-Movies when it comes to Rutger Hauer.
