All of my friends had been telling me to watch this movie and when I finally did I was amazed at the amount of serious themes addressed in this movie. The Coens were actually able to make it light hearted though so you weren't depressed by it.

When I heard the George Clooney is Rosemary Clooney's nehphew, I said, "Oh no wonder, he sings!". John Turturo is equally good.

A wacky musical comedy w/ toe tapping Gospel music & positive Christian content marred by plenty of foul language & some brief violent images.

I really enjoyed the attempt to show rural Mississippi during the Great Depression, and the attention to detail from everything to the KKK rally to the homespun Appalachian/ bluegrass/ gospel music. I just thought a lot of the dialog and scenes were stupid and cornball - not believable at all. This movie could have been so much better. I would have really enjoyed a realistic movie about the Appalachian hill people and the Lowland folks of Mississippi. I love this movie and its soundtrack. The story is super funny. I loved all the characters in this movie, especially Tim Nelson's character.
