It is a laugh-out-loud good time for the whole family, sarcastic and witty. There are overtures and references all through the movie. You will rewind to watch the countless "good parts" over and over again. The scenery ranges from desolate to breathtaking, and special effects are used sparingly but with intelligence, and added so much to the movie.
ALL the actors & actresses were so outstandingly wonderful, I can't say enough. Surprising performances from John Goodman and George Clooney, and Holly Hunter and her brood are just hilarious. We had never seen John Turturro or Tim Blake Nelson before this, but they were so funny!!
You will recommend it to everyone!!!! We watched with friends over 4 years ago and STILL greet each other with "Hey Pete... Hey Delmar... Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

This movie tops my list of all time favorites. This movie has so many levels that every time I watch I get lost in film. My wife, mother and sister cannot stand this movie, so I know first hand the people who don't get this movie. Of course they have never read the Odyssey, have little knowledge or appreciation of early 20th century American history, and do not enjoy bluegrass and folk music. My mother actually questioned if something was wrong with me for such a high recommendation! Oh well, everyone has their own idea of what a great film is. This film however is a work of art that I can return to many times over and never tire of. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

The plot was simple, but fun. Though, I felt through its very simplicity, there was a good underlying message about friends, family, and faith. There were laugh-out-loud scenes, and also sweet, "awwwwww" scenes. I have roots in the South and I love Gospel music, so this movie was also a very "home sweet home" movie for me, and I actually own it, so when i get a little homesick, I can pop it in and have a few feel-good laughs.

It is funny and light-hearted and original. Mr. Clooney delivers a unique style of comedy, unlike anyone I've ever seen. I like his humor and his timing. It's a movie not to be taken too seriously - it's intended to be light hearted. Watch it and enjoy. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No
