This movie is so strange and bad that it defies recommendation. If the fictional director from "Waiting for Guffman" directed this, I wouldn't have been surprised. Nothing works in this excruciatingly sad and awful movie. The casting, first is so bazaar that you have to wonder. No one works well as the characters, none of them mix, just a jumbled mishmosh. The story is not tragic, simply frustratingly bad. The music almost makes it in a extremely weird way, but definitely does not. I really tried to find something I liked in this movie, perhaps one or two minor characters, the rest were awful. The direction awful. Run away from this, do NOT rent it.

I saw this in the theaters. It is a very heavy film. I was completely taken in by it. The musical sequences are great. I can't think of another movie like this one. If you are a very "normal" person, you probably will not like this one. If you appreciate drama and top notch directing, pick this up. Come back here and tell me what you think.

The singing made me shriek, but the selection of cast and Bjork's acting compelled me to watch. I’m happy I did because; the movie had several twists and goes from interesting to boring, then from shocking to well…..you just got to watch it. Surprisingly enough my teenage son loved it, so you be the judge.

Simply put, if tears are not rolling down your face by the end of this, you are not human. In the beginning you might think "what in the...??" but as the story progresses you begin to understand things more clearly. You get to see the world through the main character's (Bjork) mind. An emotional movie which I am glad was made.

This Director was determined to aggravate the viewer with the Camera Work. May be a good movie, but I couldn’t get past 20 minutes.

Agreed: this is a sad tale, meant to shake you up, It's not your daddy's action flick. The ending is tragic and horrific, but we can also see the world from two views. Life can be terrible, or wonderful, but you choose how you live it. Bjork's Selma is a quiet, determined woman who wants just a few things: friends, music, a child and the best life she can manage for that child. Knowing she was doomed to blindness, she still went about life with a happy, optimistic outlook. When things got unbearable, she had her dreams of music and dancing that eased her pain and gave her strength to carry on. Filmed in a documentary style, the photography was not meant to be polished, except for a few stylized "daydream" sequences. The music is uncommon, but it's what Selma hears in her head -- a different beat. The acting was intense. Bjork is brilliant, but the whole cast carries the story, makes it real and draws you in. A difficult film to watch, but well worth it.

The music in this is great. Bjork does a great job in this one. It is a tragic story, and I don't like the way it ends, but it is a really good movie.

This film is interesting from the point of view of cinematography rather then for a general consumption. Montage is interesting but is hard on eyes due to constant camera jerking as if it were filmed without a tripod, by a moving operator. Film texture is also suggestive of a documentary. Conceptually, there is a notion of a certain life philosophy, where choices are made altruistically and egoistically and strength and weakness valued in some fashion. I was not impressed with the offered value system. However, I had seen something new that justifies (for me) viewing of this film.
