Spring Forward (2000) Reviews

I am not into "arty" movies. This movie simply spoke to me. It's about life, chapers in people's lives, and depicts the changes in lives with seasons. it's simply brilliantly written and details a guy who's about to retire, who befriends a guy who's struggling in life. The movie is slow paced, but VERY well-written. Ned Beatty is outstanding, as is Liev Schreiber. this movie is so thoughtful, so well-acted, and so well-written. It's among the best movies I've ever seen.

Watching this movie was time well-spent. I thought the pacing and character development were beautifully done, and I very much enjoyed seeing a movie in which men really talked to each other. It is visually deeply satisfying as well. I think this is a memorable and thoughtful movie, and I recommend it highly to those who like character-driven movies about believable people.

Yes, this is slow moving but the acting, writing & directing are above normal. No car chases, gun fights or explosions but not a waste of time. Never saw Ned Beatty better and he's been around a long time.

One of the best movies I have seen in years: two excellent actors who carry the entire film. Not dependent on special effects, sex or violence but, rather, sheer dialogue and human connection. For anyone who is looking for more than the usual "junk food" Hollywood fare.

A man (Liev Schreiver) fresh out of prison and longing for a life that's worth living gets hired to work with an older man (Ned Beatty) who is nearing retirement in a parks service job in New England. Both men are in need of someone to talk to & ohhh boy do they talk (and talk and talk). With all this talk going on (sometimes interesting - but often akward and not so interesting) this is really a VERY sedate film. BUT I am happy I hung in there as once you are past the first half hour (or so) the dialog and the action picks up a little even heading on towards a brief exciting moment at the end Very introspective & philosophical. Sort of a 'My Dinner with Andre' type movie for the blue collar set. Over all? I liked it. Not loving - but liking. Nice performances by both the ever-wonderful Mr. Beatty and Liev Schreiber. They managed to pull a tear or two from me by the end.

I read reviews on rottentomatoes.com and there were people who thought this was good. It borders on painful but not quite there. While I was 'watching' it I decided to start surfing the internet. The only reason why I am giving it 2 stars is that some of the subject matter is interesting.
