The Grass Is Greener (1961)
Member Rating:
A rousing chorus of Noël Coward's "Stately Homes of England" is heard as the opening titles of The Grass Is Greener fade into several stock shots of those stately homes. One of these mansions is owned by British earl Victor Rhyall (Cary Grant), who opens his home to American tourists in order to make ends meet. One such tourist is wealthy Texan Charles Delacro (Robert Mitchum), who sets his sights upon Victor's lovely wife, Hilary (Deborah Kerr). In his efforts to win back his wife, Victor presses his former girlfriend Hattie Durant (Jean Simmons) into service. The Grass Is Greener was adapted by Hugh and Margaret Williams from their own stage play. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

I thought that this movie was disappointing, considering the fact that it included such well-know actors as Cary Grant, Robert Mitchum, and Deborah Kerr. It was not what I expected.

Though I LOVE Cary Grant and have basically seen just about every movie he is in, I did not think that this was one of the best. It had some funny parts, and was a creative idea...however it just was not up to par with Grant's usual films.

It was a odd little movie. At first I felt sorry for Cary Grant - but then I understood he was playing the role women usually do. It takes a strong man like CG to to this job well. I love all these actors but this movie was a bit well......

Rather disapointing, due to the fact Cary Grant's acting lacked in everything from his normal personality to his sauve. Besides that it was a brilliant and heart warming film and I highly recommend it!

This had good movie writing. Some very witty moments. The story pitted English sensibilities against American "I can have anything I want". I didn't know to the end what would happen. It is not a fast paced movie but this kept my husband and I interested.
